Mineville Pumped Storage Project
FERC Project No. 12635-002
Located in the Town of Moriah, once the heart of New York’s iron ore mining industry, the 300 MW electricity storage facility will utilize existing abandoned iron ore mine infrastructure. The design features two underground reservoirs which operate in a closed-loop (there is no interaction with other bodies of water), and will be the first of its kind subterranean long-duration hydroelectric energy storage facility. Project performance capability and reliability is enhanced through the use of commonly available, low-cost modular, variable speed pump-generator power trains. Each of the twenty parallel trains will have generation capacity of 15 MW, for a total of 300 MW, which can be used to dispatch over short of long-term periods, as required by grid operating conditions.

Lyon Mountain Energy Storage Project
FERC Project No. P-14692
Located in on Lyon Mountain in Clinton County, NY, the 240 MW long-duration electricity storage facility will feature two new subterranean reservoirs both of which would take advantage of existing underground levels and voids within the rock created by mining activity. The design features two new underground reservoirs which operate in a closed-loop. Project performance capability and reliability is enhanced through the use of commonly available, low-cost, modular, variable speed, pump-generator power trains. Each of the sixteen parallel trains will have generation capacity of 15 MW, for a total of 240 MW, which can be used to dispatch over short of long-term periods, as required by grid operating conditions.
